My name is Stephan Lopez, a Miami criminal defense lawyer, former prosecutor, and former police detective with decades of experience in the criminal justice system. Born in Cuba and raised in Miami, I have dedicated my career to defending individuals facing serious criminal charges throughout Miami-Dade County and South Florida.
Before becoming a defense attorney, I spent nearly 10 years in law enforcement as a police officer and detective investigating thousands of criminal cases, including homicide, robbery, and other serious felonies. I later served as a prosecutor for the Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office, one of the largest prosecutor’s offices in the United States. This experience gives me valuable insight into how criminal cases are investigated and prosecuted.
For more than 12 years, I have also served as a Special Assistant Public Defender, representing clients in serious juvenile and adult criminal cases across Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, including homicide and career criminal cases. I am also qualified to handle death penalty cases, one of the most complex areas of criminal defense.
Proven Trial Experience
Trial experience matters when your freedom is on the line. I have first chaired more than 100 criminal and civil trials, many of them before juries. As a Miami trial lawyer, I am prepared to challenge the government, investigate the evidence, and fight for the best possible outcome in every case.
